What is a Wiki?

A wiki is a website that allows the easy creation and editing of any number of interlinked web pages via a web browser using a simplified markup language or a WYSIWYG text editor. Wikis are typically powered by wiki software and are often used to create collaborative websites, to power community websites, for personal note taking, in corporate intranets, and in knowledge management systems.

What does all this mean? It means this website is for community knowledge. If you see something is wrong or spelled incorrectly, fix it. If you have something to contribute, feel free. You can use this to model your own knowledge. You can create pages for documentation, recipes, jokes or anything else you can think of. It's a free service, enjoy.

Creating Pages

This can be done by typing the desired page name into the search on the left and pressing Go. The failed search will bring you to a page with a link to create that page. If you already have pages, you can link to another page on this wiki by doing [[pagename|text to display]] in the source. When you click on that link it will also allow you to create that new page. The latter method is recommended because it ensures pages are not orphaned.

Please do not create useless pages. This is a powerful tool and should be used responsibly. There is a lot of freedom for content type, but pages will be moderated if necessary.

Editing pages

This can be done via the edit tab atop pages.

Feel free to modify or add to pages. Do not remove information if it is not yours unless the information is clearly outdated or incorrect. Some pages are protected--like this one--so only admins may edit them. Otherwise, it is seen as a responsibility to correct information when you find that it is incorrect. If you are having a problem with users editing your pages, contact an admin.

Discussion

This can be done via the discussion tab atop pages.

You may start discussions for pages or participate in discussions that have already started. There is a plus sign (+) tab atop discussion pages to create new responses. Use these to discuss content and organization. No flaming, this is a productive environment.
